The Boston Red Sox went into this season with low expectations and a frustrated fanbase growing restless at ownership’s apathy and lack of aggression both during previous offseasons and trade deadlines, but the team has caught fire and is now a season-high seven games over .500 at 43-36.
The young offense and surprising starting pitching have changed the immediate trajectory of this franchise, and one insider recently revealed what the team could do at the trade deadline.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal appeared on Foul Territory and shared his thoughts on what the Sox’s approach is going to be at the deadline, and he said “From last offseason, starting now, they have been a team that seemingly does not want to try” and added “the team is better you deserve it to be, and I’m talking about the ownership” and said “I would expect that they will buy and that they will maybe do two things at once, they can trade some of their potential free agents perhaps and bring in other players.”

Rosenthal said they are obligated to make an effort given the way they are playing, especially with manager Alex Cora in a contract year, and added “Shame on them” if ownership doesn’t want to play ball with this roster.
Boston has been getting powerful performances from its young guys that have forced the team past expectations, namely Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and David Hamilton.
With the roster getting healthier and the wins piling up, Cora and company are forcing ownership’s hand.
This team is in the thick of the wild card race and has essentially cut its deficit in the AL East in half over the past few weeks.
