The Cleveland Browns must make sure to have their best pass-catcher on the field next season.
Amari Cooper has earned every single penny that’s coming to him, as he’s been the most consistent wide receiver on a team with no consistency at quarterback.
Cooper has been nowhere to be found as he pushes for a new deal before the start of the season.
With that in mind, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that the team is still hopeful to get him a new deal before the start of training camp next week, so he’s there from the start.
“The Browns hope to reach a contract agreement with Cooper before the start of camp next week so he doesn’t have to miss a beat,” Cabot said.
Cooper is the key to making Deshaun Watson’s life significantly easier.
They brought Ken Dorsey in and also traded for Jerry Jeudy, and that only means that they’re going to deploy a pass-heavy offense next season.
Needless to say, Cooper should draw most of the targets and the attention, which is why they cannot afford to have him disgruntled or thinking about anything else next season.
The Browns are looking to build off last year’s solid campaign, and while they will continue to boast a championship-caliber defense, their offense will need to step up.
Cooper has already shown what he’s capable of regardless of who’s throwing him the football, and they will have no choice but to pay him what he’s looking for right now.
