When a new NFL season starts, fans are usually looking forward to seeing a particular group of rookies make their debut on the field, and that is especially true this season.
But there was a debut off of the field that fans were also looking forward to on Sunday: that of Tom Brady as a broadcaster.
The legendary quarterback did his first game as a Fox color commentator, and it wasn’t a great one.
Senior sports media columnist Andrew Marchand said on “The Dan Patrick Show” that he gave Brady a C+ grade for his first broadcast, and that he graded Brady on a curve since it was his first NFL broadcast.

Marchand feels Brady was trying too hard to be perfect and that he simply needs to relax and be a normal man talking football to an extent.
One red flag Marchand pointed out was some set pieces Brady did in which he wasn’t great either.
There have been plenty of former NFL stars who have ended up having successful second careers as color commentators, such as Tony Romo and Troy Aikman, but there have obviously been others who were lackluster or even terrible.
Brady is obviously eloquent and knowledgeable, so perhaps in time he will make us forget about Sunday’s broadcast, and many seem to be willing to give him a pass for now.
But this is the career he has chosen, and he’s being paid $375 million over 10 years, so he will need to get better pretty fast.
