Insider Refutes Rumors of Draisaitl Departing Oilers for Eastern Team

”Source” Denies Rumor Draisaitl Leaving Oilers For Team Out East

A rumor surfaced this week suggesting that an inside source close to Leon Draisaitl was informed that the center planned to leave the Edmonton Oilers at the end of his contract, potentially jumping ship to an Eastern Conference team. A report by Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now shared the following:

“Speaking recently on BPM Sports, 91.9 FM in Montreal, former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque reported that Draisaitl is interested in playing for the Boston Bruins if he does not sign an extension with the Edmonton Oilers.”

While the future for the Oilers and Draisaitl remains uncertain, Edmonton is keen on retaining the German star in their lineup. It is mentioned:

“Someone well placed within the Oilers organization said that if the Oilers don’t go deep in the playoffs, he doesn’t see Draisaitl re-signing at the end of his deal and that he’d prefer to be a first-line center in Boston,” the former Oilers enforcer said.”

When asked on social media if the reports of Laraque’s statement were fabricated, Laraque responded, “Yes, this is made up!” While Laraque is an avid Oilers supporter, it is unclear whether the story was entirely false or if his words were misconstrued.

The erroneous report of Draisaitl’s interest in the Bruins comes at a peculiar time considering the Oilers are heading into an important Game 6 with the Los Angeles Kings, seeking to advance. Draisaitl’s bond with Connor McDavid in Edmonton would make a move seem premature.

While there is no clear indication of Draisaitl’s discontent in Edmonton, his aim to finish what he started with the Oilers is evident. He has expressed a desire to compete for a championship with the team.

Expect More Rumors to Surround Draisaitl Leaving

The impending contract discussions for the Oilers’ star forward will likely fuel more speculation in the coming days. If Edmonton does not secure a Stanley Cup victory, the rumors may escalate.

As for the Bruins’ interest, it is plausible given the caliber of player Draisaitl is. Whether the Bruins can outbid the Oilers and if Draisaitl would entertain the idea remains to be seen.
