The San Francisco Giants have been forced to place left-handed starter Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list with a left adductor strain.

There is a chance he needs more than the 15 days on the shelf, given the place and the nature of the ailment.

One has to think Snell has been battling with the injury for at least a few days, because it’s not normal to see him struggling as he has.

Of course, his spring training was abbreviated because he signed very late in the offseason, in the second half of spring training.

Still, he has made three starts and lost all three, with an unfathomable ERA.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale detailed the extent of his struggles.

“Blake Snell, 0-3 with an 11.57 ERA in his first three starts, goes on the 15-day IL with a left adductor strain, the Giants announce,” he tweeted.

Snell posted a 2.25 ERA in 2023, with the San Diego Padres.

He also struck out 234 hitters.

2024, however, has been horrible for him.

First, his hopes of scoring a long-term deal were wiped thanks to his agent, and he had to “settle” for a two-year deal worth $62 million.

Then, this: in 11.2 innings pitched in 2024, he has conceded a whopping 15 earned runs.

He has allowed 18 hits and walked five batters.

The swing-and-miss stuff is still there, evidenced by his 12 punchouts.

However, it’s hard to survive in the majors with a 1.97 WHIP.

Once he is healthy and has more innings under his belt, he should start pitching like he is used to.

At the moment, right before his injury, he looked lost.
