The Jacksonville Jaguars just made a massive decision by signing their Pro Bowl quarterback in Trevor Lawrence to a massive five-year extension worth $275 million.
This means that Lawrence will be at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to average earnings per year ($55 million).
Insider Michael DiRocco has just revealed something very intriguing about Lawrence’s contract.
“Lawrence’s new deal starts with the 2026 season so he’s under contract through the 2030 season,” DiRocco recently tweeted.
Lawrence is still on the rookie portion of his contract, which is exactly why the extension doesn’t start until 2026.
The former national champion was drafted with the first overall pick in 2021.
His career wouldn’t take off until 2022 when former Super Bowl-winning head coach Doug Pederson was hired.
Since then, Lawrence has led the Jaguars to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2004-2005.
He also guided the Jaguars to their first playoff win since 2017 in 2022.
In other words, the former Clemson star has proven himself to be a quality star on this team.
After battling some tough injuries last season but playing through them, Lawrence will now be healthy entering the year, and his contract situation won’t be a concern either.
Look for Lawrence to keep this team competitive for years to come.
Despite losing former All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Ridley to the rival Tennessee Titans earlier this offseason, the team got their starting quarterback some more weapons in first-round receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis.
Watch out for this hungry Jaguars team as the season progresses.
