Despite a disappointing end to their 2023 NFL season, there’s still plenty of optimism that the Miami Dolphins will be a contender come the 2024 NFL season.

Injuries marred what looked like a promising year for the Dolphins who boasted the best offense in the league in 2023.

With an assortment of weapons featuring Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Mostert, and De’Von Achane, Miami games became a track meet where other teams normally failed to keep up.

Orchestrating the offense was Tua Tagovailoa, who had one of the best years of his career under center.

Head coach Mike McDaniel unlocked Tagovailoa’s arm talent and gave him options when looking downfield for explosive plays.

Tagovailoa is set to play on the final year of his rookie deal but it sounds like he and the organization are discussing a possible extension, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

“Contract negotiations between the Dolphins and QB Tua Tagovailoa have OFFICIALLY begun. Chris Grier previously said they were waiting to get through FA & the draft to start. Fowler reiterated that both sides are very confident that a deal will get done,” King of Phinland tweeted, citing Fowler.

It makes sense to try and lock up Tagovailoa as he’s been legitimately good when kept upright and healthy.

While there are still instances of him dancing around in the pocket too much and making errors under duress, he’s definitely been a serviceable quarterback who’s worth keeping around.

So long as McDaniel and the skill position players are there, Tagovailoa should play well for the foreseeable future so it’ll be interesting to see what the final numbers on his new deal are.
