The New England Patriots need a quarterback, but that’s not all they need.
That’s why there has been some speculation about whether they’re going to stay put at No. 3 or trade back to add more pieces to their roster.
Those doubts haven’t been cleared yet, and new HC Jerod Mayo stated that while taking a quarterback is their priority, they are open to getting creative as well.
Even so, whether the Patriots use the pick or not, Drake Maye is most likely penciled in as the No. 3 pick, according to Adam Schefter.
Talking on ESPN, the renowned insider confirmed that the Patriots are very high on Maye and would take him third overall if they decided to stay there (Via Los Talks Pats).
.@AdamSchefter says the #Patriots have received “plenty of calls” to trade back, but Drake Maye is likely the third QB off the board regardless.

Nonetheless, multiple teams have also reached out to them to try to trade and get Maye for themselves, with the Minnesota Vikings as the most aggressive suitor right now.
Schefter pointed out the fact that even though they’ve also been tied to J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings have the opportunity to start Sam Darnold for a year and allow Maye to sit and learn, adding that QB coach Josh McCown actually coached Maye in high school, so there are some obvious ties there.
He also believes the Vikings aren’t going to stay at No. 11 and will find a way to move up to get a quarterback.
Whether he’s going to end up in Foxboro or the Twin Cities, it seems like Maye is going to be the third player off the board come April 25th.
