The New England Patriots simply cannot catch a break right now.

Star running back Rhamondre Stevenson missed most of his team’s 6-0 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, contributing to this baseball-like score.

Now, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Stevenson suffered a right ankle sprain during the first quarter and will now be sidelined for a ‘ few weeks.’

The 2-10 Patriots will now hit the road for a Thursday Night Football clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers with Ezekiel Elliott as the lead back.

Stevenson had been one of the few bright spots in the Patriots’ season, leading the team with 156 carries and 619 rushing yards.

Notably, he was also the team’s leader in receptions (38), which pretty much tells everything you need to know about the status of the offense.

Elliott took over for Stevenson as soon as he left the field, logging a season-high 44 snaps.

He’s played just under 40% of the team’s snaps, logging 112 carries for 429 rushing yards in his first year in Foxboro.

JaMycal Hasty and Ty Montgomery should also be in for an increased workload, and sixth-round pick Kevin Harris could be activated from the practice squad.

The Patriots are currently averaging a league-worst 12.3 points per game.

Their defense has stepped up in the past three games, allowing 10, 10, and 6 points.

Still, they’re 0-3 during that same span.

At this point, perhaps it would be better for them to just shut Stevenson down for the season and risk any further injury in an already-lost campaign for Bill Belichick and company.
