The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, moving into a tie for first place in the NFC West with a 3-3 record after a convincing 36-24 victory.
Despite the win, the Niners had to play without running back Jordan Mason, who suffered an injury early in the game.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided an update on Mason’s injury, stating that it is a sprained AC joint that is not severe. However, further testing will determine the extent of the injury and its implications for the team moving forward.
Mason reclaimed the NFL lead in rushing yards during the game, accumulating 73 yards on nine carries before exiting due to the injury. Isaac Guerendo filled in for Mason and ran for 99 yards on ten carries.
Currently, Mason has rushed for 609 yards and three touchdowns with an average of 5.3 yards per carry, holding a temporary lead over Derrick Henry for the top spot.
As an undrafted third-year back, Mason has admirably filled in for the injured Christian McCaffrey. This injury will test Mason’s resilience and give him a glimpse of handling a heavy workload, similar to McCaffrey. The hope is that further testing reveals it to be a minor sprain, allowing Mason to return to the lineup promptly.
