The trade rumors surrounding Hawks guard Dejounte Murray have been constant, but Bill Simmons thinks that Trae Young is a better trade target.
“I don’t think the offers are lighting them up for Murray, but I think the offers could be pretty good from the right team for Trae Young,” Simmons said on the latest episode of The Bill Simmons podcast.
Simmons suggested the idea of seeing an inexperienced team like the Spurs trade for Young, who would be able to facilitate for rising superstar Victor Wembanyama.
“You know one of my goals in life is to get Wemby a fun guard that can interact with him properly because the Spurs are just bound and determined to have him just be on his own and do all his stuff like he’s a tennis player and being on a team doesn’t matter,” Simmons said. “I think they should overpay for Trae Young.”
Young was just named as an All-Star for the first time in his NBA career, since Joel Embiid and Julius Randle won’t compete for the Eastern Conference team due to injury.
As for Murray, one of the most talked about trade destinations for him has been the Lakers, but a trade there is looking less and less likely as the deadline approaches, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst says.
“I think the Lakers-Hawks talks have been, I don’t have the up-to-the-second thing, but I think they’ve been pretty cold,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective. “Does not mean they cannot restart quickly, but I don’t think that was something that was, at least of the last 24-48 hours, that I heard much about. So we’ll see what happens there.”
