The New York Mets were seen as an old, unathletic, yet talented team in 2021-22.

The 2023 season debacle in the opening months prompted a decision to sell some of the most experienced, expensive veterans and start gathering some prospects.

The here and now might not look so promising, but the future in New York looks bright with talented prospects such as Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford, Luisangel Acuna, Marco Vargas, Christian Scott, Ronny Mauricio, Blade Tidwell, and more.

The best of them all, however, is Jett Williams.

Ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Mets’ top prospect, the 2022 first-round pick by the Mets was trying to establish himself in Double-A this year, at least until he got hurt.

According to Mets insider Anthony DiComo, he will be out for a while.

“News: top prospect Jett Williams underwent right wrist surgery yesterday, the Mets announced. He’s going to be out until August,” he tweeted.

Ouch.

Williams, who can play shortstop, center field, and second base, had played just 11 games this season in the minors due to the wrist injury.

He actually hasn’t appeared in a game since April 21 with continued soreness.

That’s why the team opted for surgery.

Williams has some wheels and certainly can take a walk.

While contact is still developing, scouts think he will hit for some power in the future.

As far as prospects go, he is very promising.

His progress, however, will have to wait at least a couple of months.
