There was a time when the New York Giants seemed convinced that Daniel Jones was going to be their legitimate franchise quarterback, but lately, there has been a bit of doubt.
He suffered a torn ACL midway through last season, and going into this year’s draft, there was speculation the Giants wanted to move on from him.
But with the No. 6 pick in April’s draft, they went with wide receiver Malik Nabers, even though they could’ve taken a QB such as J.J. McCarthy, and thus, Jones will continue to be under center for them — health permitting.
Per Jordan Ranaan, who covers the Giants for ESPN, Jones says the knee he injured last year “feels good” and that the team has made it clear that Jones’ starting job isn’t in jeopardy.
Daniel Jones: “I expect to be ready to go first day of training camp.”
He says the knee off a torn right ACL feels “really good.” His cuts are feeling sharper and cleaner than earlier in the spring.

Jones was struggling mightily prior to his injury in 2023 — in six games, he threw six interceptions but was only able to muster two touchdown passes.
New York lost star running back Saquon Barkley in free agency to the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, but they may now have a legitimate playmaker at wideout in Nabers.
Ever since Jones became a Giant in 2019, the team has lacked any legitimate threats at the wide receiver position, and there are likely those who feel it is a major reason Jones has failed to thrive.
It will be an uphill fight for New York when it comes to regaining respectability, as several other teams in the NFC have gotten better this offseason.
Even since they won the Super Bowl championship in the 2011 season, they have made the playoffs only twice.
