Liverpool is reportedly considering the future of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as multiple clubs from both England and Europe show interest in a potential transfer.
Interest has been expressed in both permanent transfers and loan agreements as Mamardashvili’s position at Anfield comes under scrutiny, according to reports from TEAMtalk.
After Liverpool acquired Mamardashvili for around £30 million in the summer of 2024, he was expected to eventually succeed Alisson Becker as the first-choice goalkeeper. However, this season, he has spent a significant amount of time on the bench, featuring in just 12 matches across all competitions, with only five appearances in the Premier League, and totaling a modest 934 minutes on the pitch.
Is Mamardashvili Leaving Liverpool?
While he has filled in temporarily during Alisson’s injury spells, including recent Champions League fixtures against Galatasaray, it hasn’t been sufficient for him to take over the starting role from the Brazilian.
To add to Mamardashvili’s challenges, Liverpool has activated a 12-month extension on Alisson’s contract, securing the 33-year-old goalkeeper until at least 2027. This decision blocks Mamardashvili’s chances of becoming the primary goalkeeper in the near future.
Some clubs are contemplating a permanent move for Mamardashvili, while others are looking at a loan option that would allow him to gain more playing time without severing ties with the Merseyside outfit.
