On October 15, 2025, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) made an impactful announcement regarding the mental and physical well-being of players on its various tours. The newly introduced Player Care Program is set to provide comprehensive support for athletes competing across all levels of ITF’s professional tours, which include the World Tennis Tour, Wheelchair Tennis Tour, and Beach Tennis Tour.

Recognizing the unique pressures faced by professional athletes, the ITF aims to enhance their overall health and performance through a range of tailored resources and expert guidance. The organization’s commitment to player welfare reflects the growing understanding of the mental health challenges athletes experience, especially in a sport as demanding as tennis.

One of the cornerstone features of the Player Care Program is the Wellbeing Tracking app. This innovative tool will allow players to monitor their mental health closely, providing insights into how their emotional state may affect their performance on the court. By emphasizing the connection between mental health and athletic success, the ITF hopes to foster a holistic approach to player care.

Key components of the program include a variety of practical resources, under the umbrella of a series titled “Wellbeing Matters.” These resources address critical topics such as mood management, sleep quality, relationship dynamics, and coping strategies for travel fatigue. In addition to personal well-being, the program also seeks to educate players on financial literacy through video materials that cover essential topics like budgeting and tax considerations in sports.

Furthermore, the initiative recognizes the pervasive issue of online abuse in the digital age, offering expert advice to help players navigate this overwhelming landscape. Confidential online consultations with well-being professionals enable athletes to seek help discreetly, ensuring they have the necessary support when needed.

Additionally, the program features online courses developed in partnership with International SOS, focusing on safety during travel, and an IOC-sponsored course that equips players with skills for life after their tennis careers, including personal development and career preparation.

This ambitious Player Care Program reflects the ITF’s ongoing dedication to enhancing the welfare of its athletes, showcasing a proactive approach to player support that recognizes both the physical and psychological demands of professional tennis. With this initiative, the ITF is not only aiming to improve performance but also to cultivate healthier, more resilient players capable of thriving both on and off the court.
