Italian Alpine Golf: A Unique Experience – Golf News

Golf not Ski: The Italian Alpine Experience - Golf News

Playing golf in the heart of the Italian Alpine region seems an unlikely choice for many. It’s too high, too rocky, too steep, and too cold. However, a visit to the Aoste Valley region of Italy during the summer reveals a delightful surprise for golfers of all skill levels, along with the added bonus of excellent wine and food.

Our journey began with an early morning departure from London Gatwick, and after a stop at Torino Caselli Airport, we arrived in the village of Aoste for lunch at the renowned Bataclan restaurant. The culinary experience provided the perfect introduction to the region’s rich flavors, setting the stage for an afternoon of golf.

Our first round took place at Golf Club Arsanières, a picturesque 9-hole course nestled in the heart of the Aoste Valley. While the course may not host a European Open, its challenging layout and stunning views make for a memorable golfing experience. After a quick refreshment at the club house, we moved on to Cervinia, a popular ski resort where we spent the night at Hotel Bucaneve and enjoyed a delightful dinner at Enoteca Twenty-seven.

The next day started with a visit to Cervino Golf Club, known for its unique 18-hole course designed by Donald Harradine. The course’s elevation offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, adding to the visual appeal of each swing. Some players even use electric mountain bikes to navigate the course, a unique and efficient way of playing golf at altitude.

Our Italian Alpine Golf Odyssey continued with a trip to Courmayeur, where we checked into the Wellness Hotel Alpissima Gran Baita before heading to Golf Club Courmayeur. Set against the backdrop of Mont Blanc, this course offers a challenging yet rewarding experience with well-maintained fairways and a rich history.

Each course we visited provided unique challenges and spectacular views, highlighting the beauty of Northern Italy’s golfing landscape. From picturesque valleys to snow-capped mountains, the Italian Alps offer a truly unforgettable golfing experience.

Overall, this itinerary blends the best of golf, culinary delights, and breathtaking scenery, making it a must-do for any golf enthusiast looking to explore the beauty of the Italian Alpine region.
