Jack Draper vs Alex de Minaur: 2024 Mexican Open Acapulco

Jack Draper vs Alex de Minaur: 2024 Mexican Open Acapulco

Jack Draper is playing really strong tennis at the 2024 Mexican Open in Acapulco, but he’s going to need more if he hopes to overcome a super-solid Alex de Minaur, who lifted the trophy here last year.

De Minaur took a step forward last year and is keeping it going this year. The Australian has been super solid so far this year, and his win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in Acapulco cemented that.

He notoriously struggled against him, losing multiple matches in straight sets, but finally beat him, continuing his rise. Draper is having himself a week in Acapulco as well.

He’s looked really strong behind his serve, and he’ll need every bit of that against de Minaur. It’s a fascinating matchup between two players who played two matches so far.

Head-to-head:

They played two matches so far, and both were won by de Minaur. The first one came on grass and was an easy win for de Minaur, who has always been really good on grass. The most recent match was in Japan a few months ago, and de Minaur was able to win that match as well.

There is one clear problem for the Brit in this matchup. He mostly plays from the baseline, but that’s not a good way to beat de Minaur, especially in Acapulco. He’s on every ball and uses his speed beautifully, which means that Draper will need to find a way to overcome that.

13-4 2024 W/L 8-3
212-138 Career W/L 45-32

Prediction:

The serve will be hugely crucial for the Brit as it’s one of the rare ways he can actually hurt de Minaur. He’s been serving really well all week long, but he’ll need to be almost perfect. De Minaur loves playing in Acapulco, and I think he’ll beat Draper once more.

Prediction: Alex de Minaur to win in 3 sets.
