Jader Obrian, Jonathan Bell selected in Stage One of MLS Re-Entry Draft

Jader Obrian, Jonathan Bell selected in Stage One of MLS Re-Entry Draft

By Favian Renkel

The busy schedule of the MLS offseason continued on Thursday with Stage One of the 2023 Re-Entry Draft.

Jader Obrian and Jonathan Bell were the two lone players selected with Austin FC and the Seattle Sounders making the selections. Both players will remain in the Western Conference after featuring there last season.

Obrian stands as a winger of starter-level caliber in MLS, boasting a track record of 17 goals and 13 assists across 94 career league appearances. Austin FC is keen on enhancing their offense, especially after parting ways with Diego Fagundez to the LA Galaxy last season. With Sebastian Driussi in need of support, this move is seen as a strategic step to address that gap.

“Jáder has been consistently performing well during the last few seasons in MLS, and he presents a dynamic threat in the wide areas,” Austin FC Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell said.

Bell spent the previous season with St. Louis CITY SC, featuring in only three matches. His current contract is set to expire at year’s end, which means the Sounders would have to extend a Bona Fide offer to him.

Should Bell reject the offer, Seattle would hold his Right of First Refusal in MLS.

The Sounders are looking to provide extra depth to their backline and add a replacement for potential departure Xavier Arreaga.

Stage Two of the MLS Re-Entry Draft will take place on December 21.
