Jadon Sancho is set to return to Manchester United this week, but his future at the club remains uncertain.
According to Phil Thomas (The Sun), even United’s staff are unsure about his role in the upcoming pre-season training.
Sancho’s situation has been ambiguous since last season’s fallout with manager Erik ten Hag.
The winger accused the manager on social media of making him a scapegoat after being dropped for a game against Arsenal. This led to Sancho’s banishment from the first team and a subsequent loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
Despite Dortmund’s interest in a permanent deal, they could not meet United’s valuation of the player.
The lack of clarity extends to the Carrington training base, where staff usually receive detailed player return dates and activity schedules.
However, there has been no information regarding Sancho’s movements or indication that he and Ten Hag have resolved their differences.
Sancho, who cost United £73 million three years ago, is currently on a £300,000-a-week wage.
The club is open to offloading him but has not received any serious offers.
Ten Hag has suggested that Sancho could still have a future at Old Trafford, but there has been no visible attempt to mend their relationship.
The strained relationship was evident when Sancho was seen eating his lunch in the training ground car park before his loan move to Dortmund.
United are reportedly asking for around £45 million for the winger, a significant loss compared to his original transfer fee.
In the meantime, United are also monitoring Rennes’ 19-year-old midfielder Desire Doue.
The young Frenchman, who is also being watched by Chelsea and Tottenham, finished last season with four goals and five assists in Ligue 1.
Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the versatile midfielder, who is part of France’s squad for the upcoming Olympics.
