The Jacksonville Jaguars’ late-season slump was hard to explain. Trevor Lawrence’s injury aside, the fact that they failed to win two games over the final month and a half of the season was mind-blowing. At least, that’s how team owner Shad Khan seems to feel.

The business mogul made an appearance with Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan to discuss an agreement between them and the city to fund stadium renovations, and he made the most of the opportunity to talk about their late-season debacle (via ProFootballTalk):

“Not to be able to win two out of the last six games, it still stings,” Khan said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com. “Even though the season’s over, it’s like I still can’t believe we couldn’t do it.”

Apparently, Khan reached out to some of their leaders, such as Lawrence and Josh Allen, and came to the conclusion that the organization had failed. The Jaguars didn’t make any big moves in the offseason despite their late-season debacle, other than extending their most prominent players. However, they might choose to go in an entirely different direction if history repeats itself in 2024. We’re talking about a team that was fresh off winning the AFC South Division and had even won a playoff game the prior year, and they were expected to win the pennant again in 2023.

Not only did they let their lead in the division slip right through their fingers, but they also missed the playoffs entirely with that disappointing 1-5 end to the season. They should fare better than that in 2024 with a healthy Trevor Lawrence and another year under Doug Pederson’s guidance as head coach.

However, it’s clear that patience is running out in Florida, and they must take another leap forward next season.
