Carragher Critiques Spurs Keeper Vicario After Draw with Liverpool
Jamie Carragher has expressed strong disapproval of Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, following his performance during the match against Liverpool at Anfield.
In a fixture held on Sunday, Tottenham and Liverpool ended in a 1-1 stalemate, with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Richarlison representing their respective teams.
Szoboszlai put Liverpool ahead with a well-placed free-kick, after which Richarlison netted a late equalizer for Spurs, who are currently facing relegation challenges.
Carragher specifically criticized Vicario for his handling of Szoboszlai’s free-kick, indicating that although Szoboszlai is an elite free-kick specialist, Vicario had a chance to stop the goal but failed to do so despite getting a hand to the ball.
Carragher’s Remarks on Vicario’s Performance
During his commentary, Carragher remarked, noting the scarcity of direct free-kicks scored in the Premier League:
“It’s clear that Liverpool has a free-kick expert. However, Tottenham seems to lack a competent goalkeeper.”
“The shot wasn’t far from the middle of the net; you’ve got to make that save. That’s just terrible from the goalkeeper.”
“Thanks to their standout player this season, Liverpool finds themselves with the lead.”
“The other goalkeeper [Kinsky] played midweek due to Vicario’s inconsistency. It’s no surprise that problems in goal persist for Tottenham.”
Troubles Continue for Spurs’ Goalkeeper

This season, Vicario has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding his performances.
His ability to distribute the ball from the back, as well as his shot-stopping aptitude, has been criticized on numerous occasions.
Following a series of underwhelming displays, manager Igor Tudor opted to bench Vicario for the crucial Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, favoring Antonin Kinsky. However, Kinsky also struggled and was substituted, with Vicario eventually returning to the pitch.
Goalkeeping remains a significant vulnerability for Spurs, and it is an area that the club is eager to improve during the upcoming summer transfer window.
