Jannik Sinner Enters Bastad Open Tournament to Prepare for Olympic Clay Court Competition

Jannik Sinner made an interesting choice by signing up for the 2024 Bastad Open to get some playing time ahead of the Olympics.

The Olympics are held this summer, which means the tennis calendar had to adjust as well. As the Games are in Paris, tennis players are going to get the tennis event on courts they know very well.

They will be the same courts where players will compete about a month and a half earlier, which is an interesting dynamic that we last saw in 2012 when Wimbledon hosted the Olympic event.

Roland Garros will be hosting tennis players this year, and it’s going to be interesting to see which players adapt most quickly from grass to clay. There won’t be much time for that, but players will have a couple of events to get adapted.

That’s why Sinner signed up for the Nordea Open in Bastad. This part of the season is generally not played by the top names, who take a break after Wimbledon, but Sinner is quite determined to do well at the Games, so he signed up for the ATP 250 event to play some competitive matches on the red dirt ahead of the Olympics.

“Hey Guys. Jannik here. I’m very excited to announce that I will be playing in Bastad this year. I’m looking forward to it. Everyone tells me it’s an amazing event. For me the first time this year so hope to see you guys all there.”

The event runs from July 15th to the 21st, with the Games starting on July 26th, so it’s the only chance to get some clay-court action for the Italian before moving to the French capital.

For now, there are also Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev, who signed up for the event.
