Jannik Sinner cruised through the second round at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, but will he do the same in the third round against Jan Lennard Struff?
Sinner arrived in Indian Wells without losing a single match the entire year. Before the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the season, his record was 12-0, and since then, it’s become 13-0, with a chance to become 14-0 if he beats the German player.
There is a pretty good likelihood that he will win the match because Struff is not a player who should generally trouble him too much. The Italian saw a player of a similar vein in the first round and cruised 6-3 6-0.
Head-to-head:
Oddly enough, Sinner and Struff never played against each other despite both competing on the ATP Tour for a few years. The German had a tremendous run last year but isn’t playing anywhere close to that level this year. Sinner has never looked better on a tennis court.
He’s arguably the best player right now and the number-one favorite to win this event. The way he played in the previous round certainly doesn’t make that any less likely.

Prediction:
This matchup favors Sinner quite a bit. Struff can’t really hang around in rallies, and even if he serves well, the Italian will find some good angles. I just don’t see what kind of pressure Struff will be able to generate in both the serve and return.
Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in two sets.
