Following a disappointing Game 2 loss for the second consecutive series, Jayson Tatum addressed the expectations placed on the Boston Celtics by outsiders after their strong regular season performance.
“We understand,” Tatum commented after the Celtics were convincingly defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2. “The world expects us to never lose. They think we should win every game by 25 points. But it’s not always going to be like that. We know it won’t be easy. This is a tough team we’re up against. It’s the playoffs, and it’s going to be exciting for the remainder of the series, especially on Saturday.”
Tatum also touched on the idea of the Celtics being labeled as a superteam.
“That’s the narrative you hear on TV,” Tatum remarked. “The perception that we are a superteam. It’s a bit contradictory, isn’t it? We didn’t have the Coach of the Year. We didn’t have the MVP. We only had two All-Stars. They call us a superteam, but we didn’t receive the accolades that usually come with it. We know we have a solid team. We’re not flawless. We strive to play the game the right way most of the time. We understand that we need to improve.”
