It’s the beginning of a new era for the New England Patriots.

Bill Belichick is no longer calling the shots in Foxboro, and we have no idea what to expect from this team.

On paper, we shouldn’t expect things to be very different right away, as their roster still isn’t exactly ready to make a splash.

However, even if they don’t win many games, what they can be sure of is that they’re going to be competitive.

When asked about his team, first-year coach Jerod Mayo promised that the Patriots would compete at the highest level (via Pats Deutsch & Los Pats Talks).

Mayo acknowledged that the outcome was the only thing that mattered to the fans, but he vowed to set a standard and make sure all players were doing their jobs and embracing the challenge and the culture on every single down.

Win, lose, or tie, he wants the players to leave it all on the field, show that they care, and go to war with and for their teammates.

For years, Coach Belichick ran a military-like system in Foxboro.

The Patriots Way clearly worked until it didn’t, and it’s time to take a new approach.

Mayo was in the trenches like all players, so he should be able to get to them and make them believe in each other.

And while it might take a while before they’re back to their winning ways, you have to build and develop a strong culture if you want to turn any team around.
