The New England Patriots understood that the 2024 NFL season was going to be a rough one as they have a young roster with a lot of unproven talent.
The season also represents the first one for Jerod Mayo as head coach, a tall task for anyone trying to follow Bill Belichick.
New England needed the reset after missing the playoffs, and it may have solved its question at quarterback when it selected Drake Maye at No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Maye rode the bench to begin the season, developing behind the scenes as Jacoby Brissett handled starter’s duties.
However, Maye will get his first NFL start in Week 6 when the Patriots take on the Houston Texans at home.
Prior to the matchup, Mayo offered his thoughts on what he’s seen from Maye so far.

From Mayo’s comments, it sounds like he has full confidence in the rookie to go out and perform.
Maye has prototypical size for the quarterback position, with athleticism to run the football combined with a strong arm.
He made a brief appearance late in a loss to the New York Jets this season, but it will be fun to see him on the field and show off what he can do for a full game.
