For years, Bill Belichick made sure to have the New England Patriots in line and ready to deliver.

He might not be there anymore, but that doesn’t mean the Patriots way will be any different.

If anything, new HC Jerod Mayo might want to take things up a notch.

According to a report by Mike Reiss of ESPN (via ProFootballTalk), Mayo will delay training-camp practice start times by 90 minutes.

Practice will now start at 11:00 am ET, 90 minutes later than their usual 9:30 am start during the Belichick administration.

While some might welcome that extra hour and a half to get some more sleep, Mayo’s intentions are far from making things easier with his players.

Instead, he’s doing that because the start of practice will actually be when temperatures are hotter.

The Patriots aren’t expected to compete at a high level in the foreseeable future simply because they lack the talent to do so.

That’s why Mayo wants to get an edge in other aspects of the game, such as a winning culture, work ethic, and effort.

Wins will come over time if they do things well, so the first year of his administration will be all about building the foundation and setting the tone for years to come.

The Patriots are a winning organization and won’t tolerate anything less than excellence, as Robert Kraft proved by parting ways with arguably the greatest head coach this game has ever seen, and Mayo has no plans of joining him in the unemployment line any time soon.
