Non-quarterbacks rarely win NFL MVP anymore, but Derrick Henry should be in the conversation.
With the way he’s playing, he should at least be one of the frontrunners to win Offensive Player of the Year.
The former Tennessee Titans star has fit like a glove in Todd Monken’s offense, and he’s been one of the main catalysts behind the Baltimore Ravens’ five-game winning streak.
Nonetheless, as great as he’s been, Jerry Jones insists that he has no regrets about not being able — or even interested — to sign him.
Talking on the radio, the Dallas Cowboys owner claimed that he wasn’t sure that Henry would be able to dominate and have this kind of year with the kind of offense they run.
Moreover, he wasn’t a good fit financially for them (via Ari Meirov).
#Cowboys owner Jerry Jones today on not signing Derrick Henry, via @1053thefan: “Derrick is having a career year. I don’t know if he’d be having a career year in our situation… We don’t run that type of offense at all… Derrick didn’t fit, principally due to managing the cap.” pic.twitter.com/q8QPMB0zRd

Henry signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Ravens, so it’s not like money was the biggest factor behind his free-agency decision.
Through seven weeks, he’s rushed for 873 yards and eight touchdowns, adding seven catches for 62 yards and two more touchdowns.
He’s scored in every game this season.
In contrast, all Cowboys players combined have rushed for 463 yards and two touchdowns.
The Ravens are sitting on a 5-2 record and riding a five-game winning streak, looking like a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
The Cowboys, on the other hand, are 3-3.
Granted, Dallas didn’t have as good an offensive line and running game as the Ravens, but regardless of how Jones wants to make it seem, not going after Henry may have been a season-dooming mistake.
