Jesse Marsch reportedly being considered for South Korea’s head coaching position

Report: Jesse Marsch linked with South Korea's managerial vacancy

Jesse Marsch’s potential first managerial role after being out of coaching could be at the international level.

Marsch is reportedly a contender for the managerial position with the South Korea men’s national team, as reported by Sports Chosun on Monday. The former Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig, and Leeds United manager would be stepping in to fill the vacancy left by former U.S. men’s national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who was dismissed last February.

According to the report, Marsch is among the three final candidates for the position.

Since his departure as Leeds United boss in February 2023, the 50-year-old has kept busy as a pundit for CBS Sports Soccer during the 2024 season and has made appearances on Sky Sports broadcasts in the UK.

During his time in Europe starting in 2019, Marsch achieved back-to-back domestic doubles with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. He then made the move to RB Leipzig in July 2021 but had a short stint as manager in Germany, lasting only five months.

After joining Elland Road in February 2022, Marsch played a key role in helping Leeds United avoid relegation from the English Premier League that season. However, the following 2022-23 campaign ended in disappointment as the Lilywhites were eventually relegated after Marsch’s departure in February.

Despite being linked with various club roles over the past year including AS Monaco, Leicester City, and Southampton, Marsch chose to remain out of work.

Currently ranked at No. 23 in the April FIFA Rankings, South Korea is set to continue its World Cup Qualifying schedule this June.
