Jim Harbaugh is headed to Los Angeles to become the next head coach of the Chargers, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an opinion on who should be his replacement at Michigan.
Harbaugh spent the past decade in Ann Arbor turning the Wolverines back into a perennial college football powerhouse before he finally won the College Football Playoff championship this year.
Now, as he prepares for his return to the NFL, Harbaugh officially endorsed Michigan offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore to take over as head coach in 2024.
“I’ll always be a loyal Wolverine. But not a better man to coach the team than Sherrone Moore,” Harbaugh said, per Angelique S. Chengelis via On3. “He has my vote, my support wholeheartedly. I feel like it’s in great hands.”

Moore has been with Michigan since 2018 – first as a tight ends coach and then as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
He was also named acting head coach during this past season after the NCAA suspended Harbaugh for allegedly stealing signs.
Harbaugh’s endorsement of Moore is crucial for a few reasons – it eliminates a possible offensive coordinator candidate for the Chargers and it gives the Wolverines a bit of continuity in a post-Harbaugh world.
Moore is only 37 years old but could take over control of the defending college football champions.
Harbaugh, meanwhile, will take over the downtrodden Chargers who look to make waves in the AFC West and the NFL with quarterback Justin Herbert after years of mediocrity under former head coach Brandon Staley.
Harbaugh hasn’t coached in the NFL since he left the San Francisco 49ers in 2014.
