LeBron James and Anthony Davis had a stellar summer winning gold with Team USA, sparking concerns about their upcoming season performance with the Lakers in 2024-25.
LeBron, who will turn 40 in December, showed no signs of slowing down in Paris, playing a total of 147 minutes in six games.
Davis also contributed 99 minutes for Team USA.
Both players have faced injury challenges in recent seasons, particularly LeBron, who had an impressive streak of 15 injury-free seasons prior.
Despite this, new Lakers coach Redick remains unfazed by their summer workload.
“I mean, look, those guys are professionals in every sense of the word,” Redick shared on the Lakeshow Podcast. “My concern for them about whether or not they’ll be ready to play on Oct. 22 and be in shape, I don’t have that concern. We’re gonna work with [athletic trainer] Mike [Mancias] and Ish [associate athletic trainer Jon Ishop], making sure that they feel that they’re in a great place to start the regular season. They’ll certainly be involved in training camp and the preseason even here in September as well as preseason games.”
While LeBron typically sees limited minutes in preseason, this year may see a change as the team adjusts to Redick’s coaching style.
Aside from LeBron & AD, the Lakers have faced setbacks in the off-season.
Jarred Vanderbilt remains injured and may miss the season start after forgoing surgery last season.
Christian Wood underwent knee surgery, leading to a two-month absence at the start of the season.
Gabe Vincent, acquired from Miami in 2023, has played only 11 games so far.
