Manchester United youngster Joe Hugill has spoken out on the influence of Ruud van Nistelrooy since his arrival at the club in a coaching capacity.
Earlier this month, United confirmed that Van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake joined the coaching staff as the latest additions to Erik ten Hag’s backroom set-up.
It’s believed that Van Nistelrooy turned down the Burnley managerial job in favor of a return to the Red Devils, where he enjoyed success as a striker under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson.
According to Hugill, Van Nistelrooy’s impact within the squad has already started to be felt.
Hugill scored a superb goal on Saturday as United beat Scottish giants Rangers at Murrayfield in their second pre-season clash.
The Carrington academy graduate was slipped in by Maxi Oyedele before he produced an emphatic finish that the Rangers goalkeeper had no chance of keeping out.
After the final whistle, Hugill spoke to the media and said, about Van Nistelrooy, “We’ve been doing a few shooting drills and he’s been giving us a few tips.”
“But obviously it’s massive having Ruud here, especially for people like myself who are young and coming up.”
“To have him in the building to just ask questions is massive.”
“In and out of possession. We were massively out of possession here – so work rate, getting back in.”
Hugill added, “And then in possession doing what a striker needs to do. Battle up there and then when you get in front of the goal being composed.”
The pair were spotted having a moment together after the game vs. Rangers.
