The New England Patriots have likely found their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye as they selected him third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Maye was considered to be New England’s preferred target throughout the draft process and they didn’t have to do anything but stand pat as the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders took Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, respectively.

Maye has all the traits that head coaches love in a prospect as he possesses a sturdy frame, great arm talent, and upside as a passer.

Aside from Maye, though, the Patriots felt the need to bolster their quarterback room further as they also took Joe Milton at No. 193 overall.

A productive signal-caller in college, Milton was excellent value that late in the draft and could carve out a role as a backup in New England.

There was some talk that Milton could move to tight end to create more opportunities for himself, but he immediately shot down the possibility, via Around The NFL.

“You are the first person I have actually heard that from, to be real with you,” Milton told the inquiring reporter. “But, that will never happen.”

There are four other quarterbacks currently signed to the roster, making it difficult for Milton to immediately climb up the depth chart.

At 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, Milton has the body to hold up at tight end though he’s right to want to stay at quarterback given his massive arm strength.

There’s precedent for quarterbacks making the switch to tight end, but Milton doesn’t appear ready to make any sort of positional switches.
