Joey D’Accord has signed a five-year extension with the Seattle Kraken worth $25 million. This deal has an average annual value (AAV) of $5 million, a move that is seen as a gamble for the Kraken. Elliotte Friedman and Chris Johnston reported the agreement.
This extension is a significant move for D’Accord, who recently showcased his skills at the NHL level. From starting as Seattle’s backup to becoming the team’s main goaltender during the 2023-24 season, D’Accord has established himself as a reliable NHL netminder.
D’Accord achieved a .916 save percentage (SV%) in 46 starts, showcasing his consistency and reliability. His performance, especially at even strength with a .926 SV%, ranked just behind Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck. Additionally, D’Accord’s three shutouts earned him recognition with third-team All-Star votes.
Kraken Bet Big on D’Accord
This extension signals a turning point in D’Accord’s career and represents a significant investment by the Kraken. While the $5 million AAV may seem high for a relatively unproven goalie, the Kraken are banking on his continued growth.

Johnston pointed out that D’Accord’s journey from AHL standout to NHL starter showcases his perseverance, and Seattle sees him as a key part of their future success.
It will be interesting to see how the Kraken handle Philipp Grubauer, who appears to have lost his starting role with the team. With $10.9 million committed to two goalies next season, the Kraken face decisions regarding their goaltending situation.
