Johnny Manziel Gets Honest About Relationship With Mike Evans

Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel recently did a revealing interview with Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe on “Club Shay Shay,” Sharpe’s popular podcast.

One thing Manziel talked about was his relationship with five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans, who he played with while at Texas A&M University.

Manziel said he had a special relationship with Evans and that it means everything to him.

“Mike Evans … what a brother to me,” Manziel said. “It makes me even emotional to think about it. To have a special bond with him, means the world to me.”

It was at Texas A&M where Manziel showed he had some special potential, and in two seasons there, he teamed up with Evans to make the school competitive.

In two years with the Aggies, he threw for 7,820 yards and 63 touchdowns, which made him a prime prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft.

But plenty of teams were concerned about his attitude and off-the-field issues while at Texas A&M, and he fell to the Cleveland Browns at pick No. 22.

Due to injuries and other problems, he played a grand total of 15 games for the Browns in two seasons, and they cut ties with him shortly afterward.

After stints in other pro football leagues, Manziel’s athletic career appears to be over, but he has apparently made strides to overcome his personal problems, which included substance abuse.

As far as the Browns and their fans are concerned, he was just another in a long line of false prophets that included 2018 No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, who showed flashed of brilliance in Cleveland but is now thriving with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It is now up to Deshaun Watson, who led the NFL in passing yards in 2020 but has failed to regain his form since, to elevate what appears to be a talented Browns roster when healthy.
