Jonathan Kuminga Unlikely to Receive Max Contract Offer from Warriors at This Time

Golden State Warriors Not Prepared to Offer Max Contract to Jonathan Kuminga

The Athletic‘s NBA insider Anthony Slater reports that the Golden State Warriors are currently not ready to extend a full five-year max contract offer to Jonathan Kuminga. There has been no significant progress towards a deal, but there is a possibility that Kuminga might consider a lucrative offer below the max to benefit the team financially.

“That doesn’t mean there isn’t a middle ground—perhaps around $30 million per season as the deadline approaches. If Kuminga is presented with a significant financial offer and the Warriors believe the deal will age well with the projected rise in salary cap, anything could happen,” Slater explained.

“There have been discussions for a contract extension, but there is still a clear divide between Kuminga and the Warriors,” Slater mentioned in his latest report on the Warriors’ offseason plans.

In a recent episode of the No Cap Room podcast, Jake Fischer highlighted, “Jonathan Kuminga is seeking a full max extension as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.” Fischer also commented on the difficulty of achieving such a contract without being a top All-Star player.

Kuminga showed improvement in all areas in his third year, with increased playing time compared to last season. In his most recent season with the Warriors, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 74 games (46 starts).

Reports Suggest Slim Chance of Brandon Ingram Joining Warriors

Brandon Ingram’s future remains uncertain this offseason, with strong rumors linking him to the Golden State Warriors. Ingram, set to enter free agency next year, is seeking clarity in his career, whether it’s with the New Orleans Pelicans or elsewhere.

According to reports, San Francisco seems to be the most likely destination for Ingram. NBC Sports Bay Area‘s Monte Poole has indicated that the chances of him joining the Warriors are slim.

The speculations stem from the Warriors’ 2020 trade for Kelly Oubre Jr., which was seen as a move to maintain their status as contenders. The addition of Chris Paul last summer was aimed at supplementing the roster rather than forming a new core, leaving room for the possibility of Ingram filling that void.
