Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire looking ahead to coaching careers post-Man United – Latest updates from Old Trafford

Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire preparing for life after Man United as they enrol for coaching badges - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United defensive duo Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire are seemingly preparing for life after their respective playing careers and are taking their coaching badges.

The Daily Mail reveals, “Jonny Evans may have been man of the match against Aston Villa at the age of 36, but he is looking to his future and following in a strong United tradition of players taking their coaching badges at Carrington whilst at the club.”

“Evans, along with Harry Maguire, enrolled to get his UEFA B qualification which is now required to pursue a career in coaching and management.”

The newspaper notes that during his time in the Old Trafford dugout, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson encouraged his players to take coaching courses.

The Scot urged his United stars to do so in their afternoons as a way of productively spending their free time.

This information about Evans comes as it looks increasingly likely that his role at United is set to intensify in the upcoming matches.

The Red Devils are currently dealing with an injury crisis in the defensive department, with up to five senior players set to be unavailable for Saturday’s meeting with Brentford.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ten Hag could deploy the experienced Evans as a makeshift left-back vs. the Bees.

Maguire on the other hand, sustained an injury during the club’s game vs. Aston Villa, just before the international break. He started alongside Evans but was withdrawn after the break.

The England international later took to social media and confirmed that he is set to be sidelined for weeks while he recovers.

Maguire and Evans’ respective deals expire in the summer of 2025. While there is an expectation that United will trigger the one-year extension on Maguire’s terms, no such clause exists for Evans and if the club wants him to stay, they’ll need to offer him a new contract.

United vs. Brentford kicks off on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
