Gianluca Prestianni has received a one-match provisional suspension from UEFA.
The controversial remarks made by Jose Mourinho regarding Prestianni’s goal celebration prompted criticism from the anti-racism organization Kick It Out, which accused him of “gaslighting.” Mourinho claimed that incidents often occur at venues where Vinícius plays, igniting backlash from Bayern Munich’s manager, Vincent Kompany, who described the comments as a “huge mistake.”
In light of the increased scrutiny, Mourinho opted to forgo media appearances, indicating a wish to distance himself from the pressures surrounding the team. This has left Benfica in a challenging position as they prepare to overcome a 1-0 deficit against Real Madrid in the upcoming match in Madrid.
