Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has hailed the mentality of international and club teammate Matthijs de Ligt.
De Ligt endured a difficult September international break, making high-profile errors in games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany. Despite the Netherlands beating Bosnia and Herzegovina, they were held to a 2-2 draw by Germany.
Following his mistake against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dutch manager Ronald Koeman defended De Ligt, who was then included in the starting XI against Germany. However, his errors in that game resulted in Germany securing a valuable point.
After a disappointing performance, De Ligt received criticism from Koeman and his teammate Virgil van Dijk. However, he bounced back with a sensational display for United in a 3-0 win over Southampton.
Scoring the opening goal from a cross by Bruno Fernandes, De Ligt showed his defensive quality throughout the match and was named man of the match for his stellar performance.
Zirkzee expressed his support for De Ligt after his difficult period and celebrated his goal along with other teammates. Zirkzee praised De Ligt’s contribution to the team and expressed his happiness for him.
Zirkzee also mentioned working closely with Erik ten Hag’s assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy, focusing on detailed work and learning from the former striker.
United will be facing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their upcoming match this weekend.
