The New York Yankees took a 1-0 series lead in the American League Championship Series on Monday with a win over the Cleveland Guardians by a score of 5-2.

Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon got the win after throwing 6.0 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, and striking out 9.

Juan Soto started the scoring in the 3rd inning with a solo home run off of Guardians starting pitcher Alex Cobb who left with an injury later in that inning.

Soto’s 3rd inning home run slotted himself in Major League Baseball history.

According to MLB Network on ‘X,’ Soto is the youngest player ever to hit a home run in the postseason with 3 different teams.

Juan Soto is off to a good start in his 2024 postseason as through 5 games, he has 6 hits in 17 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 double, 3 runs batted in, 2 runs scored, and 4 walks.

The 3rd inning home run against the Guardians on Monday made him the youngest player to hit a home run with 3 different teams including the Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Washington Nationals.

Soto has 8 career postseason home runs in 34 games played between the 3 teams.

The Yankees will look to take a demanding 2-0 series lead against the Guardians in game 2 on Tuesday night in the Bronx.

Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Yankees against Tanner Bibee for the Guardians.

The Yankees have won 6 straight series against American League Central opponents, and they are looking to appear in their first World Series since 2009.

Game 3 will move to Cleveland and take place on Thursday.
