Junior Firpo considering new Leeds contract, but prepared to leave if negotiations stall

Junior Firpo open to new Leeds deal, but will leave if no agreement found

According to reports, Junior Firpo is set to leave Leeds United in January if he cannot agree on a new contract with the club.

Firpo, who joined from Barcelona in 2021, is now entering his fourth season at Elland Road and has made 90 appearances across all competitions during his time at the club.

The former Spain youth international, who now represents the Dominican Republic with five caps, is currently in the final year of his contract.

As a result, he will soon be able to enter into pre-contract negotiations with other clubs. Real Betis, Firpo’s former club, is reportedly interested in bringing him back to Spain, as per TEAMtalk.

Leeds star open to contract talks

However, TEAMtalk also suggests that Firpo has given Leeds the go-ahead to start discussions about extending his contract.

Despite interest from Real Betis, Firpo is content and settled in England, enjoying his time at Elland Road. His main concern regarding a new contract is whether Leeds’ ambitions align with his own.

Securing Firpo on a new contract would be a significant boost for Leeds and their manager Daniel Farke’s efforts in helping the team return to the Premier League.

During the last season, the 28-year-old left-back has recorded the second-highest number of assists in Championship play (9), behind only Georginio Rutter (16). Additionally, he has created 15 big chances, with only Rutter (23) and Crysencio Summerville (19) surpassing his record.

With Rutter and Summerville having departed over the summer, Firpo will be expected to play a key role as one of Leeds’ primary sources of creativity this season.
