Golf Canada has set a goal of having 30 professional golfers at the highest levels of the sport by 2032, with the World Junior Girls Golf Championship playing a significant role in achieving that target.
The international tournament will take place at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5, featuring 24 teams representing 23 nations. Two teams will represent Canada, with players like Lindsay McGrath expressing their excitement at the opportunity to represent their country and develop their game.
McGrath, along with Nobelle Park and Eileen Park, will be part of Team Canada 2, having earned their spots through a qualifying tournament. On the other hand, Shauna Liu, Aphrodite Deng, and Clairey Lin make up Team Canada 1, with Liu and Deng earning their place through various exemptions.
Golf Canada created the World Junior Girls Golf Championship in 2014 to enhance women’s international competition and support the growth of young Canadian talent. The tournament has seen past medallists go on to achieve success on the LPGA Tour, like Brooke Henderson and others.
The individual winner of the World Junior Girls Golf Championship will receive a spot in next year’s CPKC Women’s Open at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club. Both clubs, along with Glen Abbey Golf Club, faced challenges due to heavy rains during the wet summer months in the Greater Toronto Area.
Despite the difficulties, the golf community came together to restore the course’s playability after floods, showcasing their dedication to the sport and the club.
