Justin Fields wants the Pittsburgh Steelers to think things through before making any final decisions about their quarterback.
The Ohio State product has been a man on a mission since being traded by the Chicago Bears.
And judging by a pic shared by him on social media (via Dov Kleiman), it seems like he’s been hitting the gym hard.
Fields, who’s known for being stronger and more athletic than the average quarterback, seems to be in the best physical shape of his young career.
He knows he’s not likely going to get the nod over Russell Wilson, but he has to stay ready for when his number gets called.
Truth be told, even if Wilson is a proven winner and a guy who might help them compete right now, Fields seems to be a better fit for Arthur Smith’s offense.
Also, he’s younger, so his upside is clearly higher at the moment.
The Steelers promised Wilson a starting spot when they pursued him before trading for Fields, and that may not have changed at all thus far.
But if Wilson gets off to a slow start or struggles mightily out of the gate, it will be tough for Mike Tomlin not to give the 25-year-old a look.
A former first-round pick, Fields has left plenty to be desired when given a chance to showcase his skills.
However, the Bears rarely put him in a position to succeed or catered the offense to his abilities, so there’s still a chance he will turn out to be as good as advertised.
