Juventus Secures Spot in Coppa Italia Final Thanks to Tim Weah’s Assist

Tim Weah's assist propels Juventus into Coppa Italia Final

Juventus’ quest of reaching May’s Coppa Italia Final almost came to a painful ending on Tuesday night in Rome until Timothy Weah came off the bench to play a vital role in the deciding goal against Lazio.

Weah’s assist on Arkadiusz Milik’s goal proved to be the difference in Juventus’ 3-2 aggregate victory over Lazio. Despite losing Tuesday’s second leg 2-1, Massimiliano Allegri’s squad will now meet either Fiorentina or Atalanta later this spring in the tournament final.

Former NYCFC striker Taty Castellanos boosted Lazio in front after 12 minutes before the Argentinian doubled his tally four minutes into the second half for a 2-0 Lazio lead. However, Juventus would rally late to swing momentum back in its favor.

Weah’s powerful cross from the right wing was bundled home by Milik for a 3-2 aggregate lead. Juventus would hang on to advance to the tournament final, which will be their only opportunity at a trophy this season.

Fellow U.S. men’s national team midfielder Weston McKennie played 81 minutes in the match before watching the final minutes from the sidelines.

As for Weah, Tuesday’s assist was his first since October 22 against AC Milan in Serie A play.

Juventus will meet the Rossoneri on Saturday in Serie A play, pitting McKennie and Weah up against international teammates Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah.
