The offseason for a two-time defending Super Bowl champion should be one of celebration, a bit of relaxation and then preparation to defend their titles.

But for Kansas City, it has been a time of turmoil, and that continued this weekend.

Ari Meirov reported that Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was arrested early Sunday and charged with second-degree domestic violence with a burglary designation.

Meirov further noted that this is a continuation of legal troubles for Buggs, who also faces two misdemeanor warrants for second-degree cruelty to dogs.

Details of the incident early Sunday morning are sketchy, but ESPN previously reported on the alleged incident involving animal cruelty.

The outlet cited court documents that said animal control officers and law enforcement found a pit bull and rottweiler trapped on the back porch of a home rented by Buggs.

Both reportedly appeared to be malnourished and in distress, as they had no access to food or water for a week.

The pit bull had to be euthanized.

The offseason has been marked by headlines that the two-time defending Super Bowl champs would rather avoid.

Leading the bad news were the eight felony charges leveled at wide receiver Rashee Rice, who allegedly drove 119 miles per hour in Dallas and initiated a six-car crash.

It is fortunate that no one was seriously injured in the incident, but Rice was also involved in an altercation where he allegedly assaulted a photographer.

Those charges were eventually dropped.

Kicker Harrison Butker also delivered a controversial commencement speech.

Football season cannot begin soon enough for the Chiefs.
