Karl-Anthony Towns has opened up about how the Minnesota Timberwolves responded to Draymond Green getting Rudy Gobert in a headlock earlier this season.
Speaking on Paul George’s podcast, Towns said his team laughed off the incident.
“I wish I could tell you something cool but honestly, we laughed about it,” he said. “It wasn’t even anything serious… We stayed composed, we stayed mature, and we made some really big plays at the end to win.”
Towns also addressed the idea that he should have done more to defend Gobert.
“I don’t know what people wanted me to do but it would’ve been three big old basketball players and a full Nelson would have been crazy. Just got full Nelsons going on.”
Green apologized for his actions but then proceeded to take a swing at Phoenix Suns big man Jusuf Nurkic not long afterwards.
The Warriors forward has since been reinstated by the NBA but is yet to make his return.
He also claimed to have considered retirement before league commissioner Adam Silver talked him out of it.
“I told him, ‘Adam this is too much for me,” Green relayed on The Draymond Green Show. “… This is too much. It’s all becoming too much for me — and I’m going to retire,’” Green said. “And Adam said, ‘You’re making a very rash decision and I won’t let you do that.’
“We had a long, great conversation — very helpful to me. Very thankful to play in a league with a commissioner like Adam who’s more about helping you than hurting you; helping you than punishing you. He’s more about the players.”
