Kevin Porter Jr. Reaches Plea Deal After Domestic Assault Arrest

Kevin Porter Jr. Reaches Plea Deal After Domestic Assault Arrest

Former Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. reached a plea deal Tuesday for his domestic assault case in New York.

Porter pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and a harassment violation after he allegedly attacked his then-girlfriend in a Manhattan hotel last fall.

The incident left his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, covered in blood with a deep cut above her right eye and a fractured neck.

In October, the charge of second-degree assault against Porter was dropped, due to “insufficient evidence,” that he broke Gondrezick’s neck.

Police said Gondrezick also alleged that Porter strangled her, which caused her to have difficulty breathing, redness, bruising to her neck, and loss of motion to her left arm.

Gondrezick has since denied that and accused prosecutors of pushing a “false narrative.”, saying her injuries “don’t support any of those claims.”

“Under the agreement, Porter must complete a 26-week Abusive Partner Intervention Program or an equivalent program with a private counselor. He must also abide by a limited order of protection, attend all court dates and have no further arrests,” The Associated Press report detailed.

If this happens, he will able to withdraw the assault plea in a year and will be sentenced to time served for the non-criminal harassment count, according to prosecutors.

“The resolution will allow Mr. Porter to put this incident, which involved false felony allegations and false facts, behind him with no criminal record and move forward,” Phillip Jobe and Stephanie Kelemen, Porter’s attorneys, said in a statement.

Porter hasn’t played in the NBA since his arrest and since the Rockets traded him to OKC, who waived him.
