Their season didn’t end the way they wanted, but the Cleveland Browns fared quite well in 2023.
Against all odds, the team not only made it to the playoffs but had one of the best defenses in the league and secured a spot in the postseason with one week still left in the regular season.
Kevin Stefanski coached four different quarterbacks to at least one win, with one of those being a rookie, the other a former XFL player, and the other a 39-year-old who wasn’t even on a roster two months prior.
Hence, it wasn’t that much of a surprise to see him taking home the AP NFL Coach of the Year award.
Notably, Stefanski has now won this distinction twice, becoming just the 13th coach in NFL history to do so alongside the likes of Don Shula, Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Chuck Knox, George Halas, Bruce Arians, Mike Ditka, Ron Rivera, Dan Reeves, George Allen, Joe Gibbs, and Allie Sherman (via Adam Schefter).

Stefanski had already won the award in his very first season as a head coach after leading the Browns to an 11-5 record and their first playoff berth since 2002, also getting them their best record since they returned to the league in 1999.
The Browns had more than enough talent to compete at a high level this season but were hurt by injuries more than any other team in the league, so their coach definitely deserved his flowers.
Overall, he’s got a 37-30 coaching record, and he’s now earned the right to keep leading the way in Berea for a little longer.
