Key Defender for Patriots Receives Unfortunate News

The New England Patriots face a significant setback with news that linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley has torn his pectoral muscle, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.

Bentley’s injury occurred during Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, where he played only 10 snaps before leaving with what was initially described as a shoulder issue.

Earlier reports suggested Bentley might return for the upcoming Thursday night game against the Jets.

However, the reality proved far more severe, leaving the Patriots without one of their defensive stalwarts and team leaders.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport emphasized the gravity of the situation, also noting that Bentley had recorded over 100 tackles in each of the past three seasons and was on track to repeat the feat.

Rapoport described the development as a “brutal reality” for the team.

The Patriots’ defense had already lost promising defensive tackle Christian Barmore to blood clots during training camp.

Furthermore, the team traded star pass rusher Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round draft pick following extended contract negotiations.

In Bentley’s absence, veteran Raekwon McMillan would likely step in at linebacker alongside Jahlani Tavai.
