Key Players Thompson, Lavelle, Moultrie Selected for US Women’s National Team Squad in October Exhibition Matches

Thompson, Lavelle, Moultrie headline USWNT roster for October friendlies

The U.S. women’s national team are back in action later this month and Emma Hayes revealed her 26-player roster for the upcoming matches.

Alyssa Thompson, Rose Lavelle, and Olivia Moultrie headline Hayes’ roster for a pair of matches against Iceland before a final October friendly vs. Argentina. The Americans will host Iceland on Oct. 24 and Oct. 27 in Austin, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee respectively before facing Argentina in Louisville, Kentucky on Oct. 30.

A total of 23 players will dress for the matches.

“There’s no doubt that the summer was brilliant, and we want to make these three games about celebrating some amazing accomplishments and players, but at the same time, we can’t rest on any laurels,” said Hayes, “Our focus is forward, our focus is on our process, and we want to keep chasing new heights. I love that we get to see most of our Olympic Team again after a few months, but I also love getting to work with some newer players and evaluate how they perform in our environment.

“Every 90 minutes of an international match is full of learning, for me and the players, and we’re looking forward to three great games for our fans to end our home schedule before we go to Europe in November,” she added.

A total of 18 players from last summer’s Gold Medal-winning roster were selected including Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson, and Alyssa Naeher.

Six uncapped players were also selected in October’s roster including midfielder Hal Hershfelt and defender Emily Sams. Eva Gaetino, Alyssa Malonson, Yazmeen Ryan, and Emma Sears round out the players seeking their first senior caps.

These will be the final home matches of 2024 for the USWNT before they travel abroad for their final overall fixtures in November and December. The USWNT will visit England at Wembley Stadium on Nov. 30 before closing out their 2024 schedule against the Netherlands on Dec. 3.
